WELCOME TO HERVEY BAY ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY INC

We are currently a small but growing society based in Hervey Bay on Queensland's Fraser Coast. Originally established as a casual & fun observing group in late 2008 we formally incorporated in January 2010.

With a deep interest in all things space and astronomy from telescopes to observing the night sky and even photographing it we have monthly night sky observing sessions and open public education nights at various times throughout the year. Our society is comprised of beginners to advanced.

The success of any organisation relies heavily on its members and their participation, so if you're interested in getting involved with us then we'd love to hear from you.

FULL MOON rising over Hervey Bay and Fraser Island during a close encounter with Earth.

Often we perceive that our Moon appears larger when it rises or sets but this is an optical illusion.

It most certainly has an effect on our tides most readily observed along the shallow coastline of Hervey Bay.
