In an amusing, informative and entertaining approach outlining his  journey into amateur astronomy, Jack relayed the pitfalls to avoid, the software and hardware that works well for both observing and astrophotography.

19th September 2009

This weekend to be held at member Zanne's property in Sunshine Acres. A great dark sky site fairly well situated away from obtrusive lights of Hervey Bay central.

UPDATE: Thank you to all group members who attended this observing night. A little disappointing that not everyone who'd intended coming managed to turn up however we welcome newest Maryborough member Ashley who made the trip and found us no problem. Gary Gibson managed to get some Jupiter imaging on his laptop while the rest of us panned our magnificent southern night skies with Newtonians and Schmidt-Cass telescopes. Thank you Zanne and Peter for being great hosts. More in the next newsletter...

UPDATE: Thank you to all group members who helped out with this great public outreach weekend. It was great to see so many of the public showing an interest in our great night skies here in Hervey Bay. Special thanks also to Brian Welham for making available his Hydrogen Alpha scope which provided excellent views of the solar prominences at a time when visual sunspot activity is boringly low.
